RIGOL DP831A software

Remote control and data logging for the RIGOL DP831A power supply, on Windows, Linux and macOS - with the same panel BenchMesh uses for every power supply.

Awaiting confirmation

Status

Very likely. Support for the RIGOL DP831A was written from RIGOL’s programming manual and follows the same engine as the bench-tested instruments, but nobody has confirmed it on a real DP831A yet. If you own one, connecting it once and reporting the result moves it to Community-confirmed.

Note: CH1 8 V/5 A, CH2 30 V/2 A, CH3 -30 V/2 A. CH3 is negative (settable 0 to -32 V): the voltage setter accepts 0..63 V only, so CH3 cannot be programmed below 0 V yet

Connections

USB-serial / RS-232
9600 baud, 8N1. Plug in the USB cable (or a USB-RS-232 adapter); BenchMesh finds the port.
USB-TMC
USB Test & Measurement Class (USB id 1ab1:0e11). No vendor driver needed on Linux; on Windows BenchMesh installs Microsoft’s WinUSB driver with one click.
LAN (SCPI socket)
TCP port 5555. Enter the instrument’s IP address.

Notes

  • Interface on some models onlyLAN and RS-232 are fitted on the DP8xxA models; on DP811/821/831/832 they are paid options.
  • To confirm on first contactLAN port 5555 comes from community DP832 tools, not the guide.
  • Not supported (yet)GPIB only through Rigol's USB-GPIB converter.
  • Known issueDP831 CH3 is 0 to -32 V; the voltage setter only offers 0 and above.

Have one on your bench?

Connect it, press Detect, try the controls - then tell us how it went. Every confirmation moves a model from “Awaiting” to “Community-confirmed” for everyone.

Questions

Does BenchMesh work with the RIGOL DP831A?
Very likely. Support for the RIGOL DP831A was written from RIGOL’s programming manual and follows the same engine as the bench-tested instruments, but nobody has confirmed it on a real DP831A yet. If you own one, connecting it once and reporting the result moves it to Community-confirmed.
How do I connect the DP831A to my PC?
Over USB-serial / RS-232 or USB-TMC or LAN (SCPI socket). 9600 baud, 8N1. Plug in the USB cable (or a USB-RS-232 adapter); BenchMesh finds the port. Then press Detect in BenchMesh: it identifies the power supply by its reply and adds it to the bench.
What can I control on the DP831A?
Power supply: set current, current limit, ocp, output, ovp, remote, voltage, voltage limit; read cc, cv, fail, iout, ocp, output, ovp, pout.
Can I log DP831A measurements to CSV?
Yes. Right-click any reading to add it to a recording; every instrument on the bench is sampled on one shared timeline and exported as one CSV.
Is BenchMesh free?
Yes. BenchMesh is free and open source, for Windows, Linux and macOS, and works offline.
